With the new Bernau Town Hall, the entire citizen service is now centrally located and easily accessible in one place - instead of being spread over several locations as before. Together with the historic town hall opposite on the market square, which will continue to be used by the town council in the future, the new building will further revitalize Bernau's town centre. To this end, a restaurant on the first floor, a large event hall and a terrace with a viewing platform on the roof of the new building have been accommodated. An underground parking garage is available for visitors.

The building had to meet high requirements in terms of energy building quality with the implementation of a KfW efficiency house standard (KfW 55). An essential prerequisite for this is optimized structural thermal insulation. Accordingly, the thermally effective building envelope has high insulation qualities. Appropriate sound-absorbing measures were implemented to create pleasant room acoustics for the respective uses, particularly for the citizens' hall, the foyer with the atrium and the bistro. Due to the inner-city location, noise immission control issues were relevant in connection with the use of the underground parking garage. The acceptance measurements carried out on completion of the building regarding building tightness as well as building and room acoustics confirm the desired level.
