The World Conference Centre Bonn (WCCB) site, consisting of the conference halls with meeting/administration areas and a first-class, seventeen-storey hotel that were under construction at the time, was taken over by the Federal City of Bonn in 2011. Within a very short planning and construction period of 2 ½ years, the entire interior fit-out and technical equipment had to be completed to a very high standard, guaranteeing compliance with the standards required for major events such as international conferences organised by the UN Climate Change Secretariat. In co-operation with the architects, the room acoustics plans and the material concepts for the seven halls were developed, taking into account the high user requirements. Of particular note is the large hall with a volume of approx. 39,000 m³, for which Müller-BBM was responsible for the acoustic dimensioning of the partition wall systems with a height of approx. 16 metres. For the variable utilisation of the entire hall and the subdivided volume in plenum 1, 2 and 3, high-quality conditions were created in terms of building and room acoustics. Müller-BBM planned a large and highly variable concert shell for the use of the middle section of the hall as an alternative venue for the Beethoven Orchestra Bonn, which enables favourable performance conditions for various orchestral ensembles in the conference room optimised for speech sound reinforcement.
