Former Nazi Structure Transformed into a Cultural Venue

The Kongresshalle Nürnberg is one of the most prominent examples of National Socialist architecture in Nuremberg and has been the subject of urban planning and cultural debate for decades. With the current redevelopment of the unfinished circular structure on the former Nazi Party Rally Grounds, the City of Nuremberg aims to reopen the site for cultural use.

Planned developments include:

In January 2026, the City Council awarded the redevelopment of the Kongresshalle’s circular structure to Reisch as general contractor, who is already responsible for constructing the new courtyard building. As part of this project, we are responsible for the audiovisual systems design.

Our scope of services includes:

A defining feature of the project is the parallel development of different uses: while the circular structure will provide working and presentation spaces for the independent arts scene, a fully equipped theatre infrastructure—with stage, auditorium, and orchestra pit—will be created in the courtyard.

In total, more than 7,000 m² of space will be developed and is scheduled to be completed and operational by 2028.

Our experience from ongoing projects—such as the State Theatre Nuremberg extension in the Kongresshalle courtyard—feeds directly into this work, particularly in coordinating architecture, building services engineering, usage concepts, and heritage conservation, as well as in developing sustainable, future-proof AV solutions.

We are very much looking forward to exploring new paths together with all project partners.
