In Potsdam, the tower of the Garrison Church, which was bombed out during the Second World War and blown up in 1968, was rebuilt. The reconstruction was carried out in two phases, starting with the tower. The nave is to follow at a later date. The aim of this project was to bring back the historical shape of the most important church of the North German Baroque period as a distinctive silhouette in Potsdam's city centre. At the same time, the newly built Potsdam City Palace was complemented by the restoration of the vertical antipode of the Garrison Church in its historical cityscape. The reconstructed building is used as a church, educational centre and memorial. As part of the reconstruction consortium led by the renowned architectural firm Hilmer Sattler Architekten Ahlers Albrecht (Palais Barbarini, Potsdam), Müller-BBM Building Solutions was responsible for planning the thermal insulation, building acoustics and room acoustics for the Garrison Church in order to meet modern requirements. Customised solutions for sound insulation and room acoustics ensured that all events could take place in an acoustic environment appropriate to their function. A particular challenge was to integrate the various modern utilisation options into a building structure that strictly follows the historical form.
