The new Seliger Pater Rupert Mayer Church Centre was built at an important urban location in Poing, in the immediate vicinity of the community centre, the planned town hall and the Protestant church. The foundation stone was laid on 3 November 2015, while the foundations, concrete walls and the bell frame were already in place by mid-2015. Cardinal Reinhard Marx celebrated the consecration of the new parish church, which is the first church in the Archdiocese of Munich and Freising with the patronage of Blessed Father Rupert Mayer, during a festive service on 10 June 2018.
Inside, visitors are greeted by the massive plinth made of rough, naturally air-entrapped Nagelfluh slabs, which also cover the floor, albeit in a smoothed form. Above this, a seamless, smooth and light-coloured surface that resembles a plaster structure was installed in the walls and ceiling. The high, soaring perimeter walls posed a particular challenge for the room acoustics concept. A slight incline was used to avoid disruptive sound reflections and flutter echoes. Broadband sound-absorbing surfaces in the form of an acoustic plaster system and the installation of an electro-acoustic system in the pews form the other two cornerstones for achieving good acoustic conditions for speech and organ music.
