Constructed for the 1972 Olympic Games and now a listed heritage structure, the Munich Olympic Stadium is regarded as an architectural landmark thanks to its iconic tensile roof structure. As part of this project, the voice alarm and public address system was comprehensively renewed, covering the spectator stands, the arena, and the surrounding public areas.Due to the distinctive architecture and the requirements of heritage protection, the new loudspeakers were mounted exclusively on existing technical installations of the roof structure, such as compression struts and half-masts. In close coordination with the heritage authorities and copyright representatives, the selected positions were reviewed and optimized using acoustic simulations. These simulations confirmed that, with the addition of two loudspeakers on a single compression strut, the adjacent outdoor areas could also be reliably covered. In total, 44 weatherproof high-performance loudspeakers were installed to ensure uniform sound distribution and high speech intelligibility. Integration into the existing infrastructure posed a particular challenge: the existing 100-V amplifiers and cabling systems were retained, while cable cross-sections were adapted by bundling conductors. Special low-impedance amplifiers were used for the high-power loudspeakers mounted on the half-masts to achieve the required acoustic performance.
