Audiovisual System Design
Opened in 2005, the Allianz Arena in Munich is one of the most famous soccer stadiums in Europe and impresses from the outside with its characteristic façade made of 2784 air cushions. In the 2019 season, the Allianz Arena received a new stadium sound system, which was put into operation at the Audi Cup at the end of July. Müller-BBM Building Solutions was responsible for the entire planning, tendering and awarding process.
The main requirements for the new sound system were an optimized, even sound level distribution in all three stands, improved transmission quality for music recordings and increased speech intelligibility for announcements of all kinds. Due to the static restrictions in the roof area of the stadium, the weight of the sound system played a decisive role, so an 8-inch array system was chosen. For visual reasons, the flown subwoofers also had to be integrated as unobtrusively as possible into the overall appearance of the arena. In total, the installation in the Allianz Arena comprises 266 line source elements and 54 subwoofers for the main PA, as well as 48 point source elements as delay arrays in the curves and 70 coaxial compact loudspeakers as underbalcony systems. The entire sound system is driven by 110 4-channel controller amplifiers with a system output of 440,000 watts, which are distributed across ten amplifier centers, each with two 40U system racks.
