Room Acoustics
In April 2008, the auditorium of the Feodor-Lynen-Gymnasium in Planegg, designed by the architectural firm pbr from Jena, was inaugurated. With a room volume of 3,200 m³, the multi-purpose hall offers space for up to 500 people. The hall has an asymmetrical floor plan with 280 m² of floor space in the flat, loosely seated parquet zone and 94 m² in the rising, permanently seated gallery. The maximum room height above the 30 m² orchestra pit is approx. 10 metres.
In order to create optimum acoustic conditions for the very different uses and requirements, variable absorption measures were planned in the side wall area and on the wall surfaces of the stage. The reverberation times can thus be varied between 1.6 s for classical concerts and 1.0 s for speech events. The side walls, which are inclined towards the hall and slightly concave, have a highly sound-diffusing structure behind an acoustically transparent wooden panelling. This means that the appearance of the hall is not altered even when the variable fabric curtains behind it are used. A permanently installed sound-reflecting stage enclosure in the wall and ceiling area provides ideal acoustic conditions for classical concert, opera and theatre performances.
The complete separation of the hall from the rest of the building by an acoustic joint, door airlocks, solid exterior components and an acoustically optimised ventilation system ensure the lowest basic noise levels of < 25 dB(A). This makes the hall very suitable for high-quality classical concerts, theatre performances and sound recordings.
