The new multifunctional riding arena on the grounds of the historic Saxon State Stud Moritzburg, located just outside Dresden, serves as a venue for breeding and performance shows as well as for show jumping and dressage competitions. The hall measures 70 by 40 meters with a height of 15 meters and accommodates more than 800 spectators in the grandstand. Constructed as a timber-hybrid structure, the building stands out with its clear, lightweight architecture, sustainable materials, and efficient building services. An integrated ebb-and-flow system ensures optimal moisture levels in the sand footing, creating ideal conditions for equestrian sports.

The acoustic design focused on ensuring excellent speech intelligibility and high sound absorption to reduce disruptive noise—contributing to a pleasant atmosphere for both humans and animals. Key challenges included the large dimensions of the space, which result in long reverberation times, and the demanding mechanical and climatic requirements placed on the timber-based acoustic absorbers.

In addition, a modern training room and an adjacent warm-up arena were built, for which corresponding architectural and acoustic planning was also undertaken.

To protect nearby residential areas during large-scale events, noise control measures were implemented in the building envelope and technical systems, along with supplementary organizational guidelines. The new building ensemble impresses both functionally and atmospherically—offering the operator a wide range of additional usage possibilities, including cultural events, trade fairs, and other public formats.
