The Catholic Dominikus Centre was planned by meck architekten for the new district on Munich's Nordheide. The building comprises a chapel, a parish hall, a day care centre, the Catholic youth centre and the Caritas Centre Munich North. These social and cultural facilities are grouped around a central courtyard in an architectural sculpture made of bricks. Incisions in the cubature form passageways that turn the courtyard into a public space.
The highlight of this project is the chapel room, in which the brick look of the outer shell is continued and united with the sacred elements. A special acoustic solution had to be found for this room in particular. Due to the differentiated utilisation units that are arranged next to each other in this building, special attention was paid to the sound insulation between the individual areas. The transparent façade openings were designed as aluminium or timber mullion and transom constructions with large areas of glazing, in which the aspects of heat, sun and noise protection could be harmonised. Additional narrow casement windows allow natural ventilation of the rooms. For the entrance areas, special designs were created taking into account the
special constructions in the form of heavy brick and large reversible doors were developed for the entrance areas, taking into account the building physics requirements.
