Reopening of Pfaueninsel Palace

After several years of construction, the listed palace on the Pfaueninsel in Berlin was reopened on 25 May with a colorful program of music, art, literature and artistry. For us, this marked the successful completion of a renovation project that was as sensitive as it was technically demanding.

As part of the Special Investment Program 2 of the federal government, the state of Berlin and the state of Brandenburg, the project included the comprehensive renovation of the facade, the restoration of the building envelope and the conservation of the historic interior. The aim was to permanently secure the castle and preserve its original appearance.

The animal inhabitants were also taken into consideration: a suitable alternative home was created in the nearby old royal potato cellar for a bat population that had settled in the basement. We verified and documented the frost-free conditions on site. A place with a historical note – after all, it was a Prussian king who once helped the potato to become better known in Germany.

We would like to thank everyone involved in the project for their trusting and committed cooperation – and recommend a visit to this special UNESCO World Heritage site.
