The eight-court sports hall at the Berliner Ring school centre in Monheim am Rhein is considered Europe's largest school sports hall of its kind and is also the first facility with eight court areas on two levels. The new building was constructed by the NÜSSLI Group as a total contractor using a modular, prefabricated design and is part of the comprehensive reorganisation of the school site. The hall has a pure sports area of around 4,400 m², which can be used flexibly as an eight-court sports hall or as two independent four-court halls. It is complemented by around 3,000 m² of ancillary space for changing rooms, sanitary and technical rooms, storage and a central foyer. A retractable telescopic grandstand with 500 seats allows for school and club sports as well as competitions and events. The hybrid construction of wood, steel and concrete enabled a short construction period of around two years and significantly reduced the disruption to ongoing school operations. Architecturally, the building was partially embedded into the terrain to reduce its height and achieve a clear urban integration. The sports hall combines high functional flexibility with efficient construction and represents a sustainable infrastructure for education, sport and the public.
