The Freiham educational campus is by far the largest school construction project in the state capital of Munich to date. An elementary school, a special needs center, a secondary school and a grammar school for a total of 3,000 pupils were built on a usable area of 38,500 m² and designed according to the Munich learning house concept. Higher-level functions, such as the library, a double sports hall and the canteen, are integrated into the "campus center", which is also open for extracurricular uses. With construction costs of around 245 million euros and a construction period of two and a half years, the educational campus opened its doors on time for the start of school in fall 2019.The learning house concept and the requirements of inclusion place special demands on the planning and design of the acoustic measures. Learning takes place in so-called clusters. Depending on the type of school, several classrooms, rooms for all-day supervision and team rooms are grouped around an open, multifunctional central area. The necessary room damping was implemented efficiently and sustainably. Due to the exposed location, the school buildings are exposed to considerable traffic noise. Against this background, the façades must meet high sound insulation requirements. At the same time, a window-independent ventilation concept for the common rooms was developed. Along the adjacent main road, the façades of the student houses are largely closed, and a transparent noise barrier provides further noise protection. further noise protection.
