In 2007, on the occasion of its 40th anniversary, the University of Television and Film laid the foundation stone for a new building in the heart of Munich‘s museum area just opposite the Alte Pinakothek. The new building, 150 meters long, follows the shape of the Pinakothek designed by Leo von Klenze. The stone base, supporting the glazed top, houses studios, cinemas, control rooms, lecture halls, a cafeteria and a library. Since the 2011 winter term, students as well as teachers have enjoyed working on premises equipped with the latest technology, and as of 2013, the State Collection of Egyptian Art can be admired under the green space of the building‘s forecourt.

Against the background of the rapid advancements in the film and television technology, the aim clearly was to plan the initial equipment considering today‘s as well as future requirements while also taking into account any existing equipment. Today, the University offers its young talents state-of-the-art production and training facilities. The four film and television productions studios are directly connected to the control room as well as to post-production areas for digital editing, color adjustment and visual effects. Moreover, for the sound design equipment great importance was attached to ensuring that all Dolby requirements were fulfilled.
