We warmly congratulate BEHNISCH ARCHITEKTEN on the nomination of CASA – Action Sports Center in Munich-Pasing for the German Sustainability Award for Architecture 2025!
Müller-BBM Building Solutions GmbH supported the transformation of the listed Eggenfabrik into a multifunctional, climate-sensitive sports and community venue through specialist planning in the fields of energy efficiency, sustainability, building acoustics, and room acoustics. We are pleased to see this project receive the recognition it deserves.
The project has already been honored with the KlimaKulturKompetenz Award and the DNA Paris Design Award 2025 and is also nominated for the DAM Prize 2026.
At the heart of the project lies a well-considered climate concept: Natural ventilation is achieved via sensor-controlled louver windows in the façade. A wide-spanning skylight roof fitted with semi-transparent photovoltaic panels provides both daylight and energy generation. Thermal simulations helped optimize ventilation, solar shading, and heating loads.
The sustainability approach also extends to the exterior: A ground-based façade greening with Virginia creeper improves the microclimate and supports biodiversity. Meadow areas, willow trees, and a play lawn offer a range of uses, complemented by slackline posts and seating. The gable windows and PV roof were optimized with bird protection in mind. The exterior walls were thermally upgraded in a preservation-sensitive manner using vapor-permeable, mineral-based internal and external insulation. Heating is provided via district heating and ceiling-mounted radiant panels.
The German Sustainability Award for Architecture is presented in cooperation with the German Sustainable Building Council (DGNB) and supported by the Federal Chamber of Architects, the Federal Foundation for Building Culture, and Caparol. The award ceremony will take place on November 27, 2025, as part of the Forum for Sustainable Architecture at the Bundeskunsthalle in Bonn.
