The official completion of the Peter-Kaiser-Saal in Nendeln (Liechtenstein) is announced. The newly designed concert hall, which emerged from the historic barn of the protected Hagen-House, now offers excellent conditions for chamber music and other musical performances.
The historic ensemble, consisting of a classical double house, a large barn, a washhouse, and a shooting hut, was built in 1837 and served as a K&K post station until 1912. Following a careful renovation and expansion, the property now serves as the new home of the International Music Academy Liechtenstein. The residential building provides accommodation and practice rooms for music students, while the attic is used as a professors’ loft.
Müller-BBM Building Solutions took on the challenging task of room and building acoustics. Special focus was placed on transforming the barn into a concert hall. In addition to the integration of sound-diffusing wooden surfaces and adjustable wood absorbers, precise sound insulation measures were implemented. These include specially developed box windows with soundproof glass panes and targeted sound protection measures for the roof and gable walls. The historic wooden cladding of the façade has been reinterpreted with adjustable wooden slats.
Details on the acoustic challenges and solutions can be found in the detailed article by Dr. Andreas Meier in our Focus section.
