The draft of the revised DIN 4109 has been available since August 2026. The standard is one of the key regulatory foundations for sound insulation in buildings.
Müller-BBM Building Solutions contributes to the development of regulations and standards for building sound insulation. In the technical journal Bauphysik, Dr Andreas Meier explains the changes proposed in draft DIN 4109-1:2026-09 for verifying sound insulation against external noise.
The proposed provisions take greater account of different types of external noise and the frequency-dependent sound insulation performance of external building elements. Where technically justified, requirements may be reduced moderately. The intended level of sound insulation is maintained, while unnecessary overdesign and the associated construction costs can be avoided.
