Groundbreaking Ceremony for the Kirschgärten Munich

General

On July 9, the foundation stone was laid for the first phase of the new Kirschgärten urban quarter in Munich-Allach. Attending the event from left to right: Max Maier of Maier.Neuberger.Architekten, Wolfgang Bogner (Managing Director of Eckpfeiler), and Munich’s Lord Mayor Dieter Reiter, who recognized the project as a “climate-neutral model district,” thereby highlighting its significance for urban development policy.

The new district will provide around 1,500 residential units for approximately 3,000 people in the coming years. Forty percent of the gross floor area is designated for subsidized housing. Construction will be carried out using timber hybrid methods and will focus on sustainable urban development. More than 60,000 m² of green space will be created, including a 24,000 m² public landscape park and around 400 newly planted trees.

In addition, a comprehensive range of social and infrastructural amenities is planned – including several daycare centers, a three-stream primary school, a central neighborhood square with a café and local shops, a community center, co-working spaces, generous playgrounds, and mobility hubs with shared transport options.

How we want to live tomorrow is being decided today – the Kirschgärten project makes a meaningful contribution to the ongoing debate on sustainable, social, and future-oriented urban development. We are proud to provide our professional support for this project over multiple construction phases.

As early as October 2024, we reported on the district’s DGNB Platinum certification. You can find more about this in our previous news release.
