The listed building Haus 4 on the grounds of Studio Babelsberg was completely renovated and largely rebuilt for use as a concert recording hall with adjoining recording and mixing control rooms. Parts of the building were gutted down to its steel frame. The entire building technology had to be renewed. Original floor and wall surfaces were uncovered and restored.
Control room 1 projects into the orchestra hall with its generous window front, so that the sound engineers and producers can overlook the entire orchestra, the orchestra stage and the screen for the large projection. The entire control room block was decoupled from the building structure to provide the necessary high level of sound insulation. The spacious control rooms were acoustically designed in such a way that an optimal sound image can also be created in the rear areas. The 72-channel analog Neve VR mixing console, extensive outboard equipment and a DSP command system provide optimum conditions for orchestral recording. The redundant DAW system accesses a central data storage and backup systems with the system assigned to control room 2. This means that powerful, networked systems are available around the orchestra. The hall was equipped with remote-controlled, digital microphone preamplifiers, a comprehensive communication and headphone recording and command system. HQI luminaires developed by Müller-BBM Building Solutions were used for the hall lighting, whose ECGs operate absolutely noiselessly. This means that up to 800LUX light intensity can be achieved evenly and glare-free throughout the hall.
