The 3-group St. Irmengard kindergarten was built entirely of solid wood. Adapted to the rural settlement structure of the surrounding area, six buildings of different depths with visually appealing timber cladding are lined up next to each other, each connected by a large play corridor. The wooden surfaces were also left visible inside the building, creating a very appealing workshop atmosphere for the children's groups.
Based on extensive consulting services focusing on thermal insulation, energy balancing and building acoustics, the kindergarten was planned in accordance with the passive house standard and certified after completion.
The new building was given a highly insulated building envelope as well as energy-efficient systems technology, including a ground source heat pump and decentralized ventilation systems with heat recovery. Furthermore, the low energy requirement values calculated after the kindergarten was completed were largely confirmed by acceptance measurements and as part of a two-year monitoring process for temperature, humidity and energy consumption.
