Building Acoustics
On July 10, 2016, the Theater am Ring reopened after more than three years of renovation and conversion work. Luxembourg architect François Valentiny has transformed the listed building from the 1950s into a contemporary theater with great respect for the existing building fabric. Even from a distance, the striking façade with the large letters visible on the roof of the building dominates the face of the city.
The new heart of the building is the multifunctional ballroom. With seating for 200 to a maximum of 600 in the stalls and on the two-sided gallery, the room is acoustically optimized for a wide range of uses: a sound-absorbing ceiling provides the audience areas with the necessary initial reflections and an optimized wall geometry serves to increase the impression of spaciousness for the audience. Sound-absorbing rear wall and parapet cladding as well as large curtains ensure appropriate reverberation behavior and enable a high degree of acoustic variability. The ballroom is therefore ideal for all types of electro-acoustically amplified events, such as lectures, congresses, conferences, theater performances and shows, cabaret, dance, pop and folk music, but also for classical concerts with natural acoustics.
