The former Wuppertal Schauspielhaus is to be converted into the Pina Bausch Centre and will in future be used primarily as a dance theatre. The artistic concept for the Pina Bausch Centre envisions a building that is open year-round and throughout the day, offering a wide range of uses. The concept is based on four pillars: the Tanztheater Wuppertal Pina Bausch, the Pina Bausch Foundation, the Production Centre for interdisciplinary productions by independent national and international ensembles, and the Forum Wupperbogen, which promotes the active participation of the city’s community.

The range of spatial uses within the Pina Bausch Centre is correspondingly diverse. Large spaces can be used as (rehearsal) stages as well as for exhibitions, productions, performances, film screenings, and conferences. These are complemented by smaller rooms for meetings, workshops, and seminars, along with lounge and social areas. In addition, offices and various workspaces are provided.
The foyer, auditorium, and stage house of the former Schauspielhaus will largely be preserved. However, they will be functionally expanded, adapted to contemporary requirements, and comprehensively upgraded from a technical perspective.
In addition to the conversion of the existing building, a new building will be constructed, featuring a multifunctional space equivalent in size to the main stage, a ballet studio, a sound studio, and further functional rooms. The existing pavilion will also be remodelled and equipped with a large multifunctional space.

On behalf of Kunkel Consulting International, Müller-BBM Building Solutions is responsible for the planning of the audio, video, and stage management (inspicient) systems for the entire building ensemble.
