In the southern part of Hamburg’s HafenCity, the Westfield Hamburg-Überseequartier has emerged as a multifunctional urban district with international appeal. Spanning approximately 420,000 square meters of gross floor area, the development combines retail, gastronomy, office spaces, residential units, hotels, a cruise terminal, as well as cultural and entertainment facilities such as a Kinopolis cinema and the immersive exhibition space Port des Lumières. The architectural diversity of this ensemble—comprising 13 construction sites—results from collaboration with renowned architecture firms from Germany and abroad. The district is BREEAM-certified, with the office buildings additionally certified by DGNB.Müller-BBM Building Solutions provided comprehensive building physics consulting for the project. In close coordination with all planning stakeholders, customized concepts were developed for thermal building physics, energy standards, and both building and room acoustics. A particular challenge was the integration of a wide range of usage profiles under one urban roof, combined with stringent requirements for sustainability and comfort. The certification criteria, along with the dense urban structure, demanded precise solutions—for example, to minimize sound transmission and ensure comfortable indoor climates despite the high proportion of glazed surfaces.Master planning: HPP Architects | Design architects: Böge Lindner K2 Architects, Carsten Roth, léonwohlhage, Christian de Portzamparc, UNStudio, LRO Lederer Ragnarsdóttir Oei, KBNK Architects, Hild und K, Werner Sobek | Implementation planning, among others: ATP Asymetria, Chapman Taylor, bds architects, Schaub & Partner Architects, Beinhoff Gerhardt Architects, Höhler + Partner
