The Staatstheater Nürnberg, with its divisions of opera, drama, ballet, and concert, is Bavaria’s largest multi-genre theatre. In the north-western courtyard of the listed Kongresshalle on the former Nazi Party Rally Grounds, a new extension to the Nuremberg State Theatre is being built and is scheduled for completion in the 2028/29 season.

The free-standing new building will offer around 800 seats, a large stage area, and orchestra and rehearsal halls. It will serve as an alternative venue for opera and dance during the renovation of the opera house and will remain as an additional stage thereafter. At the same time, the ring-shaped Kongresshalle structure surrounding the courtyard is being redeveloped to provide workshops, rehearsal rooms, dressing rooms, and administrative offices that will permanently support theatre operations. Particular emphasis is placed on outstanding acoustics, barrier-free access, and state-of-the-art audio, video, and stage technology.
