On April 8, 2025, Westfield Hamburg-Überseequartier was officially opened – marking a major milestone in the urban development of Hamburg’s HafenCity. Around 650 invited guests, including Hamburg’s First Mayor Dr. Peter Tschentscher, Jean-Marie Tritant, CEO of Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield, and Theda J. Mustroph, General Manager of the quarter, attended the festive opening before the new urban district was opened to the public.
The day was accompanied by a diverse supporting program: live music, artistic performances, brand activations by tenants, and a large fireworks display in the evening gave visitors an atmospheric first impression of the new destination.
Westfield Hamburg-Überseequartier was designed by various international architectural firms and developed across 13 construction sites. The district covers a total gross floor area of approximately 420,000 m² and combines residential, commercial, cultural, and recreational uses with tourism and mobility.

In his speech, Dr. Peter Tschentscher described the new quarter as “an expression of Hamburg’s modern yet tradition-conscious identity.”
Theda J. Mustroph emphasized: “This vibrant, community-oriented place on the Elbe is a unique environment where people can live, work, shop, and enjoy their free time. We are delighted to be able to share this exceptional place with the city.”
