The renovated museum building on the Domberg invites visitors to explore art and cultural exhibitions in the context of faith, art, and society. After a temporary closure for fire safety reasons in 2013, an architecture competition was announced, which was won by Brückner & Brückner Architects. The Diocesan Museum is now fully powered by renewable energy sources. Heating and cooling are provided through heat pumps and refrigeration machines supplied by groundwater from the Moosachaue. This innovative system enables a significant reduction in CO2 emissions and contributes to the sustainability of the project.A particular challenge was the transformation of the formerly massive four-winged building on the western spur of the Domberg into a daylight museum. Care was taken to preserve the historical ambiance while enabling modern use. The Archdiocese of Munich and Freising actively promotes sustainability and encourages resource-efficient use of materials, which is why existing building elements were carefully inspected and reused. To meet the museum's room climate requirements and optimize energy consumption, extensive investigations and simulations were conducted.
