On the former Reemtsma site in Berlin-Schmargendorf, GoWest is emerging as a new, multi-layered commercial district that brings together urban manufacturing, craftsmanship, creative industries, and services in one location. The design deliberately references the site's industrial heritage: robust building typologies, distinctively designed courtyards, and clearly structured access routes create space for productive work and communal life. The architecture is based on a reinforced concrete skeleton structure that allows a high degree of flexibility in use. Facades made of lightweight perforated bricks and wooden windows lend the ensemble an industrial character with a contemporary touch. Open first floor zones with workshops and public areas activate the quarter in the urban space, while the courtyards are used for different themes - from crafts and offices to gastronomy.
