In the former no man's land on the site of the Hamburg railroad station, a new quarter is being created: Europacity. A new building, characterized by the structured façade of the balconies on all sides, extends across the southern part of this area. Together with other new buildings and the long Rieckhalle, a former warehouse, it forms the art campus. The first floor is reserved for a prestigious gallery for art exhibitions, with 120 owner-occupied apartments above. The new building, which has a basement, also offers over 80 underground parking spaces.According to the client's specifications, the standards of a KfW Efficiency House 70 were to be implemented. Müller-BBM's accredited KfW experts provided comprehensive support for the building, from the application to the issue of the necessary certificates. The art gallery poses a particular challenge in terms of thermal insulation in summer, as the exhibits are to be viewed from both inside and outside. For this reason, external and/or internal solar shading or solar control glazing, which distort the incident daylight, were out of the question for the gallery. Increased night ventilation via openable skylight windows was chosen as a suitable measure here. The various demanding uses in the building (art gallery on the first floor and apartments above) resulted in special requirements with regard to sound insulation. With appropriately dimensioned structural measures, a high-quality acoustic standard was implemented throughout the new building.
