Since 2002, the Pinakothek der Moderne has been one of Munich‘s most important museums. The Pinakothek is an impressive sculptural building, characterized by a central rotunda where a large staircase provides access to the exhibition rooms located on three levels.

By means of well arranged absorption surfaces as well as by selecting suitable smooth acoustics plaster systems, the Pinakothek der Moderne successfully merges the monolithic architectural design with the acoustical requirements on room attenuation. During the construction phase, the acoustical effectiveness of the plaster surfaces was already verified and ensured by special acoustical measurements performed on-site.

Not only the spacious exhibition rooms but also and in particular the large volume of the museum‘s central rotunda were treated acoustically. These broadband acoustical measures are designed in such a way as to maintain the spacious impression of a large hall, at the same time counteracting excessive reverberation and thus noise levels too high. In contrast, the lecture room is attenuated adequately for speech and is designed to guarantee excellent intelligibility.
