Room Acoustics
The completely remodelled culture hall is directly adjacent to the secondary school in St. Michael/Eppan in South Tyrol. It is used as a school auditorium and also serves as an event hall for the municipality of Eppan for theatre plays, recitals, choir performances and brass band concerts by local clubs and music bands. In 2003, it was decided to extensively renovate the now almost 30-year-old building and to expand the seating capacity to over 500 people.
The necessary geometric framework conditions were created at an early stage of the planning process in order to ensure good room acoustics for the intended multifunctional utilisation profile with the desired increase in audience numbers: By lowering the floor in the central stalls area by 1 m and extending the auditorium in the longitudinal direction of the hall, the acoustically very favourable and important increase in room volume to approx. 5,500 m³ was achieved.
