Energy Concepts

The headquarters of Bayerische Staatsforsten in Regensburg was extensively renovated and extended. Among other things, the façade and interior fittings were redesigned and the building was extended by one storey. The inner courtyard was to be made accessible to a wide range of uses by means of a glass roof.

Energy-efficient and sustainable construction was very important to the client. Consequently, the climate concept for the offices and atrium focused on passive measures such as a highly efficient façade, the use of the building's storage masses and natural ventilation. When renovating the façade, the focus was not only on saving energy, but also on improving user comfort by providing better daylight, among other things. Thermal simulations were used to examine the indoor climate in more detail and the concept was optimally adapted to user requirements. In summer, the underfloor heating is used as floor cooling to increase comfort. The control of the solar shading on the glass roof of the atrium was optimized with regard to solar heat gains, a high daylight yield and a stimulating atmosphere with a play of shadow and light. In the atrium, natural ventilation is used in summer for night-time cooling. In order to make full use of the thermal buoyancy, the supply air is drawn in from outside via the basement.
