The new national park museum “Haus der Berge” in Berchtesgaden combines an information center, an education center and an outdoor area on an area of 17,000 m². The main exhibition “Vertical Wilderness” is designed as a walk-through landscape panorama in a single, approx. 1,300 m² exhibition area. A steadily ascending hike takes visitors from the bottom of Lake Königssee all the way up to the Berchtesgaden Alps. The conclusion and highlight of the exhibition is a 12-minute nature film in the mountain showcase, which is projected onto the inside of the rotating slatted screen. The slats then open for three minutes to reveal a view of the national park.
In the permanent exhibition, the chilled ceiling was activated for room acoustics and, in conjunction with the exhibits, creates a pleasant room situation with good speech intelligibility. In the foyer and reception area, the focus was on achieving the best possible level reduction so that good communication is possible at the ticket and information desks even with high visitor numbers. The sound-absorbing measures in the cinema were dimensioned in such a way that the acoustic effects of the sound system are shown to their best advantage. A particular challenge in the cinema was the design of the multi-layered wooden ceiling structure to the lecture hall above: this allows film screenings with high effective levels and acoustically sensitive lectures to take place at the same time.
