The new extension at Kokoschkaplatz strengthens Alice Salomon University of Applied Sciences’ campus in Berlin-Hellersdorf. The building provides modern teaching, research and working environments for up to 1,700 students and 100 members of staff. Seminar rooms, skills labs, movement and therapy rooms, a children’s area and offices accommodate the university’s wide range of activities. The spatial programme is complemented by a cafeteria with a production kitchen on the ground floor. A distinctive feature is the ten-storey, 39-metre-high tower: its top floor houses a seminar room with theatre functionality and panoramic views across the surrounding district.

The building’s diverse uses placed specific demands on thermal performance, energy efficiency and acoustic comfort. For the new development, Müller-BBM Building Solutions provided consultancy services for thermal insulation and energy performance assessment as well as building and room acoustics. This work established key foundations for energy-efficient building operation, effective acoustic separation between the various teaching, working and service areas, and appropriate listening conditions tailored to the use of each space.
