The sculpture depot of the Prussian Palaces and Gardens Foundation complements the existing depot building and optimises the storage of works of art, in particular sculptures made of different materials. The new building, erected close to Potsdam's main railway station, blends seamlessly into the architectural context of the neighbouring commercial buildings. With its striking brick façade and vertically structured entrance façade, the depot is a functional and aesthetic extension to the existing depot.

The largely windowless solid reinforced concrete building was designed with the aim of minimising building services installations and low energy consumption while ensuring a stable temperature and humidity level. This approach minimises the long-term energy and maintenance costs for the building.

In particular, our services included the development of a concept based on thermal inertia and the prediction of building humidity, which is crucial for the safe storage of the artworks. We were able to predict and optimise the duration and effort of the building drying processes by forecasting the time and quantity. This made it possible to store the artworks at a favourable time and ensured ideal climatic conditions for the long-term conservation of the culturally and historically valuable collection items.
