The new building of the Institute of Software Methods for Product Virtualization of the German Aerospace Center (DLR) on the southern campus of TU Dresden provides 1,568 square meters of state-of-the-art workspace and research facilities for around 90 employees. The elongated structure integrates seamlessly into the existing campus layout and takes advantage of the gentle slope of the site, resulting in five full stories on the valley side and four on the uphill side. In addition to offices and meeting rooms, the building houses IT laboratories and server areas that required highly sensitive technical installations.

The building-physics and acoustic requirements were correspondingly complex: on the one hand, the goal was to create a pleasant acoustic environment with clear speech intelligibility and quiet zones in the work and communication areas; on the other hand, the technical systems and server rooms needed to operate reliably and energy-efficiently. Additional soundproofing measures on the building envelope and mechanical systems ensure both high internal working quality and compatibility with the surrounding neighborhood.
