The new sports hall for the Kepler and Humboldt grammar schools in Ulm was designed by h4a Architekten as a triple stacked gymnasium. The striking building is characterized on the outside by vertically suspended aluminium slats, which ensure good daylight conditions in the window areas thanks to the corresponding slat position and enable users to relate to the outside space.
Based on the client's specifications for the desired energy standard, investigations into the passive house standard were carried out during the preliminary planning phase and the results were supplemented by profitability calculations. The investigations into the energy standard were completed by carrying out zonal building simulations and measures were then developed on the basis of the simulations to ensure pleasant summer temperatures. As part of the building acoustics consultation, suitable constructions were developed for the separating ceilings, which from an acoustic point of view are also suitable for uses that go beyond pure sports use.
