As part of the merger of the Rebdorf secondary school for boys and the Maria Ward secondary school for girls, the existing single gymnasium had to be demolished. As a replacement, a new triple gymnasium was built in the diocesan school center in Rebdorf. The building is built on a slope and opens up with a large window front to the north-east towards the outdoor sports facilities. On the opposite side, the monolithic structure with its partially green roof is discreetly concealed in the slope.
In the interests of a sustainable building design, high-quality constructions were developed in terms of thermal insulation. Three-dimensional thermal bridge calculations were used to develop and examine special detailed solutions for the green wooden roof construction. The design of the floor-to-ceiling glass façade to the north and the large roof glazing was carried out in such a way as to ensure ideal daylight conditions inside the hall. The climate concept of the gymnasium was also reviewed and optimized with the help of simulation calculations.
