The Interdisciplinary Centre for Nanostructured Films (IZNF) is a state-of-the-art building complex at Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg for research in the field of modern optics and photonic technologies. The building is also a new part of the infrastructure of the Cluster of Excellence Engineering of Advanced Materials (EAM) and is used by various interdisciplinary working groups from several chairs. In addition to chemical and physical laboratories and measuring rooms as well as special measuring rooms with highly sensitive equipment, the building also includes office, lecture and meeting areas as well as a central foyer. The building technology required for operation also takes up a large proportion of the space. The new building is located at the Erlangen site on FAU's southern campus on Cauerstraße. The five-storey building has a total of around 5000 m² of usable space. One focus of the consultation was on vibration protection for the vibration-sensitive laboratory equipment. As part of the room acoustics consultation, measures tailored to the architectural requirements were developed in the seminar and meeting rooms to ensure good speech intelligibility. In some areas of the building, the interactions with the concrete core-activated ceiling also had to be taken into account. Based on extensive building climate analyses, concepts were developed for the offices to ensure thermally comfortable climate conditions in summer. The requirements of EnEV 2014 were undercut by approx. 30 %.
