The city of Bergen, with just under 300,000 inhabitants the second largest city on the west coast of Norway, is one of the busiest seaports in Europe. A new cultural center, the "Åsane Kulturhus", has now been built in the Åsane district. With a gross floor area of around 4,500 m², the new building offers space and room for a wide variety of usage concepts. The building ensemble is equipped with a cultural hall, conference and rehearsal rooms, a library, various activity rooms, an exhibition room and a dance hall.

The "Kultursaal" and "Blackbox" are designed for multifunctional use. The capacity of the two halls is around 485 and 128 seats respectively and around 1000 and 250 standing places respectively when the grandstands are retracted. The design of the sound-absorbing surfaces, which act across the entire frequency range, and the targeted sound control make it possible to cover a wide spectrum from amplified pop and rock music to lectures, rehearsals and concerts with brass ensembles or choirs. The rooms each have a reverberation system that provides sufficient attenuation in the bass range with simultaneous tonal brilliance. In order to expand the acoustic size of the rooms and thus the range of uses, the possibilities of an electronic room acoustics system were used here. The VIVACE system now ensures an optimal listening experience in both rooms.
