As the Rheingau Music Festival 2021 at Schloss Johannisberg could only have taken place with a reduced number of listeners in the hall due to the pandemic, the decision was made to erect a mobile concert cube in the castle courtyard. The concert cube is impressive in several ways: it functions as a mobile solution, has outstanding acoustics and is also a visual eye-catcher. Under normal conditions, the 45 m x 20 m large and 8 m high cube is designed for an audience of 1000; with corona distancing rules, around 500 visitors were possible.

After extensive sound modeling in advance, the planners opted for a folded wall structure and wall cladding made from a total of 132 wooden acoustic panels. There are 14 narrow window elements in between. In the central ceiling area, convex wooden acoustic sails are installed on steel frames. To ventilate the hall in accordance with the applicable hygiene regulations, ventilation pipes laid in the floor provide fresh air, while stale air is extracted upwards. In order to meet the desired mobility requirements, all components are designed to be dismantled by truck and container - from the floor and wall panels to the ceiling and the 82-ton steel scaffolding. Around four weeks are estimated for the reconstruction, and around 30 trucks for the transportation of materials. At the end of the Rheingau Music Festival, the concert cube was dismantled and temporarily stored in the depot.
