The Paulinum - Aula und Universitätskirche St. Pauli is a building of the University of Leipzig on Augustusplatz. The building was constructed on the site where the Paulinerkirche was blown up on May 30, 1968. As the university's own building, the Paulinum unites scientific institutes and the university's auditorium as well as its prayer room under one roof. For larger events, the auditorium and prayer room can be connected via a variable and transparent room divider to form a single space.

The wide range of very different uses of the 14,000 m³ three-nave space with ribbed vaulting and columns posed very special challenges for the acoustic planning. Thanks to the infinitely variable activation of the variable sound absorption surfaces on the walls and the possibility of linking the auditorium and prayer room, the acoustics can be flexibly adapted to the respective use. Depending on requirements, the room can be transformed into a concert hall, a chamber music room or a lecture hall with excellent speech intelligibility. The result is consistently impressive, both in terms of aesthetics and acoustics. Noise generated by the immediately adjacent areas of the institute, the air conditioning systems and the traffic on Augustusplatz is excellently soundproofed and cannot be heard in the interior in any disturbing way.
