The energy efficiency of the new buildings on the site was designed to be significantly lower than the requirements of the EnEV in force at the time of planning and construction. The existing listed façades were also thermally optimised. Extensive building physics analyses and calculations were carried out by Müller-BBM Building Solutions to upgrade the existing window constructions. These were supplemented in some areas with thermally optimised windows. In order to reduce solar gain and avoid undesirably high room temperatures in summer, it was possible to develop an external solar shading system that was acceptable in terms of design in line with the listed building requirements.Individual room acoustics measures were developed for the various lecture theatres and classrooms as well as for the library and canteen and integrated into the architect's design concept.
