Building Acoustics

Since it was founded in 2005, the teachers at the Essenbach music school have taught the steadily growing number of pupils at eight different locations. In October 2010, the school finally received a new building with a 230-seat concert hall, a percussion and dance studio, rooms for early musical education and ten classrooms. The building is accessed via the two-storey, multifunctional foyer.

The building project was accompanied acoustically from the competition phase through to completion, which is reflected both in the floor plan design and in many of the construction details. The concert hall not only impresses visually with its shimmering golden outer shell, which is modeled on brass instruments, but also with its good acoustic properties. Characteristic features are the slightly splayed room shape, structured wall surfaces and room acoustics that can be adapted to suit the use. The hall is structurally separated from the other music rooms by the acoustically well-damped foyer, so that parallel use is possible without interference. With the help of a combination of reinforced concrete and dry construction, a very good sound insulation standard was achieved between the individual rooms. Acoustically favorable room proportions, slanted walls, sound absorbers and variable sound-absorbing elements ensure good room acoustics in the classrooms. The percussion studio and the dance hall are also located in the basement.
