The new institute building at the University of Augsburg unites the chairs of art and music in one place. One of the planners' aims was to provide an architectural framework that supports students in their creativity.

The auditorium, which is located directly at the main entrance in the basement, is of central importance as an area for external visitors. Thanks to sophisticated room acoustics planning, the auditorium can be used both as a concert hall for large orchestras or chamber music and as a rehearsal hall for the university orchestra and choirs. The use of state-of-the-art room acoustics and the perfect architectural implementation of the measures ensure that both listeners and musicians can always enjoy the sound to the full.

A sheltered entrance area and a spacious foyer welcome visitors. The main staircase in the continuous air space allows views to all levels of the building and invites visitors to discover it on all levels. The arrangement of the rooms for art and music creates meaningful adjacencies. Clever room arrangements and appropriately designed building structures avoid mutual acoustic interference. The transitions are fluid, so that mutual enrichment is promoted by a non-hierarchical pathway system, by corridor widenings and niches as well as by differently lit exhibition and presentation options.
