The new Luxembourg Learning Center (LLC) combines the campus libraries, which were previously spread across various university locations, with other university buildings in the former steelworks in Eschsur-Alzette. The unusual building concept was designed by Valentiny hvp from Luxembourg. For the library, the existing steel structure of the old Möllerei, together with two restored blast furnaces, was converted into an innovative science building.
A total of 15 km of sound-absorbing baffle systems are arranged in a strictly linear direction on the undersides of the thermally activated reinforced concrete ceilings to dampen the acoustics of the open room structures. In addition, the carpeting laid on almost all levels ensures an excellent reduction in walking noise. In the seminar, meeting and training rooms, the baffles continue as room acoustics measures. Sound-absorbing elements with perforated wooden surfaces are also used. The individual rooms for concentrated work and the administrative area of the building are equipped with appropriate sound insulation.
