Building Acoustics
new secondary school has been built on the site of the former school building in the municipality of Selva di Val Gardena in South Tyrol. The new building houses normal and specialised classes on the 1st and 2nd floors as well as special classes for music on the 3rd floor, which are used in the mornings for the school's normal music lessons and in the afternoons for the music school's extracurricular activities. The ground floor of the secondary school houses administrative areas, a library and a canteen with kitchen. There is a gymnasium in the basement, which is also available as the Aula Magna for school events for approx. 260 people. The centrepiece of the new building are the acoustically demanding rooms for the special music classes on the 3rd floor. Here, the acoustic requirements of the South Tyrolean regulation for the construction of music schools were implemented using special room-in-room construction methods. This ensures trouble-free parallel operation of the school and music school. Individually customised wall and ceiling panelling ensures good room acoustics for rehearsals and learning. The two-storey Aula Magna on the 1st and 2nd floors is used for school and club sports and also serves as a multi-purpose room for a variety of events such as theatre and brass band performances. A correspondingly variable stage equipment and the combination of permanently installed and mobile room acoustics measures enable the wide range of uses.
