Thermal Insulation & Energy Performance Calculation

The University of Kassel has expanded its main campus on Holländischer Platz in Kassel's city center. Together with the canteen, the Campus Center forms a core of central functions for the entire campus. The new lecture building offers six large lecture halls for a total of 2,400 people and six seminar rooms for a total of 300 students. The Campus Center functions are divided into consultation areas for the university and the student union.

The basic idea of an energy-optimized building was already pursued in the preliminary planning stage. The aim was to undercut the annual primary energy requirement of a reference building for heating, hot water, ventilation, cooling and built-in lighting by 50%. In order to meet the specified requirements of EnEV 2009, efficient building services and the appropriate dimensioning of the thermal insulation measures for the building envelope were of primary importance. The use of district heating adjacent to the site had a favorable effect on the primary energy factors, and it was possible to prove that the building was below the required level.
