Dating from 1975 and 1988, the Palais de la Musique et des Congrès was extended and comprehensively renovated. The existing structure of equilateral triangles was maintained and complemented as needed. This approach created a clearly visible overall design with simplified organizational procedures for the complex types of usage. At the same time and thanks to a spatial separation of the different event areas, it has become possible to use each respective group of rooms simultaneously without any disturbance.

Both the room acoustic and building acoustic consultancy focused on the new halls, above all on the orchestra rehearsal hall – with an acoustically effective volume of approx. 6,000 m³ – and on realizing its room geometry almost identical to the concert hall geometry. The hall‘s acoustic decoupling from the building complex and the protection against external noise now ensure undisturbed orchestra rehearsals. With the construction of the new exhibition hall in PMC 3 with a volume of nearly 50,000 m³, another multifunctional event venue was added to the music and congress building. The exhibition hall can be used as an exhibition space as well as for pop and rock music concerts. In PMC 2, a completely new lecture hall seating 600 was installed, an existing multi-purpose hall was extended and now has a seating capacity of 1,200 (as compared to 900 before). In the concert hall in PMC 1, new seats were installed.
