The project involved the redevelopment of a residential quarter on Ludlstraße in Munich. The objective was to create an attractive living environment for diverse tenant structures, complemented by social infrastructure such as a daycare centre and a neighbourhood meeting space. With regard to building acoustics, particular emphasis was placed on the implementation of effective sound insulation measures in order to maintain a high level of residential quality despite the proximity to the motorway. At the same time, energy-efficient solutions were integrated into the energy performance assessment to ensure sustainable operation. The southern and northern development areas presented specific challenges in terms of occupant rescue using turntable ladders, as well as due to the polygonal building geometries with projecting balconies. Nevertheless, a fluid and open spatial structure was achieved, resulting in a car-free, fine-grained development that evokes a village-like character. In terms of construction, the timber façade of the longitudinal building facing the motorway demonstrates an innovative approach within Building Class 5 under demanding boundary conditions.
