Room Acoustics
The Science Gateway CERN, a new science education and outreach center, was designed by architect Renzo Piano. The center for scientific education and culture appeals to target groups of all ages and includes inspiring exhibition spaces, laboratories for practical scientific experiments and a large auditorium for scientific events.Acoustic measures were developed and planned in close collaboration with RPBW Architects. The main focus was on an impressive auditorium for up to 1200 people, which combines the high architectural demands with the acoustic requirements. The modern design of the space is extremely versatile and was designed primarily for speech events. It can be divided into three separate rooms using mobile partition walls. Two symbolic "tubes" on either side of the public road represent the tubes of the electron accelerator running underground. Particular attention was paid to the acoustic design of the cylindrical cross-section.
